Accessibility
Our goal is to make this event as accessible as we can without compromising the tone and atmosphere we are aiming for. We will do everything we can (within reason) to accommodate individual requirements to allow you to enjoy the event.
Please note, this game is most likely not for everyone due to both the site and the very physical nature of the game. If you have any questions or concerns please contact a ref, we will hold your place in the queue so you will not be disadvantaged in any way.
Triggers
Cleansing Flame seeks to explore in depth the question of morality. There will be a safeword and a break room if you find yourself overwhelmed. However, you should be aware that, as a horror game, it may do so in unpleasant ways. The event may contain any of the following:
There will be an opportunity on booking the event, to notify the refs of any triggers or phobias you may have, and we will make every effort to ensure you do not come into contact with those things during the game. (Sadly, due to the nature of the game, there may be some instances where it is not possible to ensure you do not come into contact with certain things, however we will make sure you are informed of this as soon as possible, so that you can make a judgement on whether playing the game is the right option for you.)
Sleeping
We will have both IC and OC sleeping, and players can either camp or use the bunks on site (both options are available for both IC and OC).
Be aware that this game will run for 24 hours, during which there will be no designated sleeping/down time. Whilst we encourage you to take time out to sleep if you need to for your safety or enjoyment, the plot will continue while you are away and you may miss things.
If you sleep IC you will be at risk of attack or skulduggery from monsters or players at any time.
If you sleep OC any items other than your base costume/weapons/bandages must be left in an IC area so as to allow the plot to continue while you are away. Depending on how the situation develops while you are away, there is no guarantee that you will be able to recover these items on your return.
Mental Health
The event will have a safeword which will allow you to stop play and move away from the action if you are feeling uncomfortable. There will also be an OC space dedicated to letting players take some time out if they need to. If there are any other concerns you feel you have please let us know and we will work with you to make sure they are taken care of.
Mobility
Unfortunately most of the cabins at Birch Hall have some stairs in order to get into them. While there are not a lot of stairs this is worth bearing in mind. The site is mostly flat managed woodland and meadow with some patches of denser woodland. There is one hill, but it is fairly shallow.
The game itself is going to be very physical, while there are roles available for people who do not like fighting, avoiding combat altogether may be difficult as there will be no designated ‘safe’ space in the IC area. Even non-combat characters (i.e. characters whose background/personality tends to keep them away from combat) are at risk of being killed or subdued. The game will also contain quite a lot of night combat and exploring in heavily wooded areas.
There will be provision for non fight safe players to avoid being intentionally attacked by other players. But please be aware that the nature of this event, involving moving around a lot and fighting at night, will inevitably put you at risk of accidental contact during fights. Please contact a ref if you would like to discuss how we can accommodate you if this is of concern.
While the players will not be expected to be constantly moving, there will be an emphasis on hiding, sneaking and fighting. It is also worth noting that there are very few ‘soft’ skills in the mechanics.
Food
The event will be fully catered, all dietary needs can be accounted for. Water, tea and coffee will always be available to the players and crew as well as small snacks.
Ticks
Birch Hall does have a high tick population. Please be careful, wear lots of bug spray and check yourself frequently after being in the woods. We will have first aiders to help remove ticks. But it is something you should be aware of.
Do not attempt to remove ticks yourself before consulting with a first aider.
Crewing Vs Playing
If you do not think that this event will be accessible to you for mobility issues but still wish to attend speak to the refs about crewing. It is much easier to control the pacing, intensity and types of activity as a crew member than a player.
If in doubt contact a ref
If you want to discuss your particular needs and making this game more accessible for you, please email the ref team. We are happy to make any reasonable adjustments for our players or to discuss if this is a game you will enjoy given any restrictions you may have.
