Look and Feel
Look
It is not recommended that players buy kit before they receive their briefs, as there may be specific kit requirements for some characters.
Generally, the look we will be going for is “grimy medieval peasants” so cotton trousers, “LARP” shirts, and cloaks and basic robes in browns, greens, or faded blacks will be suitable. There will be no plate armour in setting, (sturdy, sensible) leather and chain are both acceptable, but whether your character starts with armour will be stated on your brief.
We request that you wear dark shoes, but we’d rather you were wearing modern shoes that are comfortable in and you can fight and run safely in, than “on brief” shoes in which you can not. In general, when you are making kit decisions please remember that this is likely to be a high combat event, and plan accordingly.
If you receive your brief and there are any costuming elements that you feel you cannot provide, please get in contact with the ref team and we will either lend you the kit ourselves, or provide a suitable alternative.
Feel
The event will feel pressed and desperate with the a feeling of constant pressure. You will be up against things that are harder than you as well as things you cannot hope to fight unless you find some way to fix the power balance. There will be an emphasis on uptime action, proactive play and player agency. Actions will have reactions. There will be constant danger from within the group, PvP is encouraged and people are fully capable of contracting the curse in play. The event will start with low power levels with some chances of escalation via uptime action.
Cleansing Flame has taken much of its inspiration from Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and Battlestar Galactica.
